Volunteering

We encourage Godrejites to volunteer their time through different programmes and initiatives. Through Brighter Giving, our structured volunteering platform, we provide volunteering opportunities to our team members who are keen to engage in skill-based, longer-term volunteering projects. Our volunteers have worked on projects ranging from developing a marketing strategy for an NGO to mentoring a child from a low-income background.

Additionally, we facilitate day-long ground volunteering activities, online volunteering and fundraising for emergencies.

Our projects, with their focus on capacity building, have formed deeper and meaningful connections between our employees and the individuals they have sought to help.

Mentor Me India - One-to-one community mentoring

We partner with Mentor Me India, an NGO with a mission to help children in low-income communities grow to their full potential. Godrejites take up projects for a year where they mentor children on a range of subjects from English, Mathematics, Computers to Banking, Finance, Law and Sports. The mentoring sessions involve both field trips and classroom education. Talking about their personal journeys has inspired young students, many of them first-generation learners in their communities.

Shraddha - Empowering autistic young adults

Godrejites helped segment, target and develop an engagement strategy with donors for Shraddha, an NGO working with autistic and mentally challenged young adults. Our team members evaluated the NGO's fundraising strategy and trained the staff on a donor management software system. They even built an e-mail marketing strategy to facilitate interactions with Shraddha's various stakeholders. Shraddha is now incorporating the proposed changes and following a structured approach to their interactions with the donors.

I volunteered with Shraddha, an NGO working with autistic and mentally challenged young adults. I helped them streamline their donor management system and stakeholder interactions. Through this volunteering project, I got an opportunity to interact with autistic adults and live their lives for a few hours. This was an eye opening experience and one that I deeply cherish.

Kshamata - Empowering adolescent girls and women

Godrejites worked to build a sustainable and scalable business model for Kshamata, an NGO working to provide women and adolescent girls faced with exploitative situations a chance to earn employment with dignity. Our volunteers worked on several product ideas and prepared a holistic business model that covered product categories, price points, sales and distribution strategy and a sustainable profit and loss model.

Sithokoziswe Ark - Music and Learning Centre

Godrej South Africa launched a music and learning centre in Umlazi, Durban to give underprivileged children from disadvantaged communities an opportunity to learn a music instrument and provide a constructive after school activity.

The centre was opened at the Sithokozise Primary School in February, 2013. It has two classrooms in a converted container, complete with more than 40 instruments. Today, up to 850 children now have access to free music education.

We organize volunteering events and encourage Godrejites to be a part of these day-long activities. Our intiatives include the annual Good & Green carnival, volunteering around the World Environment Day and the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon in support of the Teach For India foundation.

Godrej Global Volunteering Day

The annual Godrej Global Volunteering Day is a platform for our team members to connect with our communities more meaningfully. In 2015, over 1500 Godrejites across 51 locations in 9 countries volunteered in schools to spread the message on health, hygiene and sanitation. Our team members held film screenings, conducted interactive games and initiated cleanliness drives to engage with over 15,000 children in 72 schools worldwide.

Good & Green Carnival

Since 2011, we have been hosting the annual Good & Green Carnival in our Head Office in Mumbai. Over the two-days, our NGO partners showcase their products, host workshops and conduct awareness sessions. The themes range from our Good & Green goals to celebrating our Brighter Giving volunteers and their work with our NGO partners. As a part of the Carnival, we invite children from low-income households to discover our Mangroves, the largest privately managed belt of Mangroves in Mumbai.

Joy of Giving Week

Every year we organize volunteering activities around Joy of Giving Week for our employees.

In 2012, 400 Godrej employees across 13 locations in India, set out to spread the message of a Greener India to children from low-income backgrounds. This unique experience took our staff to rural and urban classrooms, shelter homes, orphanages and library projects across the country. The lessons included talks on energy efficiency, waste and water management and renewable energy.

In 2013, we organized donation drives for clothes and school supplies for children through the NGO Goonj. We also organized khichadi drives at our Mumbai offices in partnership with the ISKCON Food Relief Foundation, to raise awareness and funds for mid-day meals for under-privileged children in government schools.

Girl Empowerment by Micro-franchising

The Godrej - Darling team partnered with the Nike Foundation and the International Rescue Committee to train young women for better employment in Kenya. Through the Girls Empowered by Micro-franchise programme, the girls are trained on all aspects of hairdressing. They are also given products for training that help them in the initial launch of their small business enterprises.

World Environment Day

We're committed to building a Greener India and every year on World Environment Day, our employees help bring us one step closer to our 2020 goals through volunteering. In 2014 over 1,500 Godrejites planted trees across 14 locations in India to help offset our carbon footprint. In addition, our employees participated in a range of environment related activities including an online Good & Green quiz, an engaging debate on environmental sustainability, a photo exhibition showcasing the Godrej mangroves, a lecture on biodiversity, a film screening and a waste-paper collection drive at some of our offices.

In 2015, over 2,850 Godrejites across 16 locations in India participated in a range of environment related initiatives. In addition, we also introduced an in-house carbon footprint calculator for our team members and encouraged simple ways to reduce carbon emissions.
